CASE STUDY

My Client’s Biggest Fear Was Having to Rehome a Puppy she LOVED.

Sheree worked through my Positively Powerful Introductions Program with these 4 dogs over the course of 5 months.

A brown Mastiff walking on a log

Otis: Mastiff Mix, 8 years old, 125 lbs

“The Gentle Giant Who Enjoys Monkey See, Monkey Do”

  • Joins in on reactivity of other dogs in the home.
  • Struggle with his own reactivity towards men.
  •  Size contrast with the new puppy.
  • Seniors and puppies have energy mismatches that can lead to conflict.
  • Patience of a saint, so interactions needed to be interrupted for him.

Summary:

Otis was the easiest dog in this case. The management setup we used gave him the chance to have his own needs met. By the time he was with Peppermint again in the same space all of the dogs had plenty of skills for interrupting undesirable interactions. As a result, their interactions were overwhelmingly positive.

A white, black, and brown terrier stands outside look at the camera

Elwood: Terrier Mix, 7 years old, 45lbs

“The Senior Irritated by Puppies”

  • Easily frustrated by puppies. Doesn’t want to be nipped, jumped on or wrestled with.
  • Needs time and space to relax and sleep. Had an energy mismatch with a new puppy.
  • Peppermint could potentially injure him in play as she grew into adolescence.
  • Stressed by new and unexpected altercations with Winter.

Summary:

Elwood thrived with the management setup and relationship building. This allowed him to decompress and recover from scuffles with Winter. He got through the annoying puppy stage and early adolescence without developing negative feelings toward Peppermint rebuilt his relationship with Winter.

A Great Pyrenes mix with white fur and a black spot around her eye with black ears

Winter: Great Pyrenees Mix 3 years old, 60lbs

“The Dog Who’s Afraid of the World”

  • Struggled to adjust to change as a result of her anxious disposition  and long list of fears (people, dogs, places, noises etc).
  • Her reactivity was driving high levels of arousal in the entire household.
  • The transition stress had her fighting with both Peppermint and Elwood.

Summary: Winter was the most difficult dog in this case, requiring a medical referral for medication and a significant amount of time for decompression before she could be reintegrated with the rest of the dogs. Peppermint and Winter were the last dogs to have physical barriers removed on a permanent basis.

A husky puppy with white and black fur lying on a wood floor

Peppermint: SIberian Husky, 4 months old, 15lbs

“The Easy Puppy Turned Resource Guarder”

  • Typical puppy, lacking developed social skills.
  • Not responding to signals of other dogs.
  • Struggling to relax and be calm in the presence of the other dogs causing chaos.
  • Big feelings about resources of all kinds which ultimately required careful management and behavior modification.

Summary: Two female dogs with behavioral complexities in the same household can be an issue. This is due to the increased likelihood of severe fights between female dogs. Ultimately we were able to help these girls live happily together thanks to careful relationship building and the dedication of my client.

Before You Rehome One of Your Dogs...

While rehoming may be the best and only choice in some cases, my course has and can help many households avoid this scenario.

In this case my client and I partnered together to tackle behavioral complexities and dog relationships turned sour to create a household that is harmonious and loving.

My course and wraparound support of my client, as well as her dedication to this work averted this worst case scenario. Not only that, she got the multi dog household that she always dreamed of having and the confidence and knowledge to keep it that way.

You can too!

Show me the program options!

This is how we got from a multi dog nightmare to multi dog bliss:

Management

We used systems of gates and careful control of resources to create a safe environement where all of the dogs could thrive.

Decompression

We reduced the level of stress in her household by meeting dog needs and helping them engage in destressing activities.

Learning

With safety achieved my client began working the course. She gained essential knowledge for living happily with her dogs.

Application

My client began the work of buildng positive relationships between the dogs and taught skills that made living together easy.

RESULTS

One woman, 4 Dogs and a Weeks Long Cross Country Hiking Trip!

This was Sheree’s top goal for her dogs, and it was a big one, but together we made it happen!

I just returned from camping alone with all 4 dogs We tent camped at 8500 ft elevation at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and around Escalante, Zion, Kodachrome, Bryce. All of the dogs slept in the tent with me.  Everyone is doing really well and they have accepted each other.  They all seem to be reading each others’ cues and responding too!
My son came out to visit and he was astounded that they can all “play find it” together with Cheerios with no conflict.  He picked up some training tips from me, thanks to you.  We are a pretty devoted animal family.
Truly you’re not just saving lives, you’re creating happy ones!

A great pyrenees mix and a siberian husky rest in the grass after playing at a campsite

NO WAY!? YES, WAY!!

This could be you and your dogs, so what are you waiting for?
